Aviation - SAP Steamics

Project Requirements:

The client’s core business is designing, producing, and maintaining components and systems for civil and military aeronautics. The company aims to provide technologically advanced solutions, always ensuring the highest quality standards.
As one of the first in Italy to invest in 3D printing for metal component production, they started manufacturing and commercializing such components. When fully operational, it became necessary to integrate production machines with the SAP management system, optimizing business processes.

Approach:

Collaborating with Data Network for system integration and interfacing, the client successfully implemented the connection between the management system and 3D printers. This required adapting interfaces to ensure compatibility with the MES communication protocol. Thanks to this integration, data flow between systems was optimized, improving production efficiency and ensuring more precise control from design to component manufacturing.

Solution:

An advanced communication protocol based on web services was implemented between SAP, as the master system managing production activities, and Streamics, the platform controlling 3D printers. This project introduced complete, automated, real-time data exchange covering all major additive manufacturing milestones: from print start to interruption or completion, through intermediate phase progress, material consumption tracking, and scrap management.
Integration ensured constant and precise monitoring of the entire production cycle, providing a unified, immediately available data basis for further analysis and optimization.
Benefits of the solution:
• Automation of repetitive and low-value tasks
• Real-time reading and communication of production phases
• Calculation of actual production times for more accurate planning
• Improved product costing
• Increased overall production efficiency
The project stood out for Data Network’s effective methodology, founded on solid expertise and strong on-site user support during the crucial go-live phase. The collaborative approach and innovation focus enabled achievement of tangible, lasting results.
